From May 17-19, 2013, The Boeing Museum of Flight will be offering a unique, 2-day course centered around the iconic World War II bomber, the Boeing B-17. This course will familiarize participants with the design, construction, operation and performance of the aircraft. Sessions include briefings about the the plane’s systems and how the aircraft is flown.
The course also features personal tours led by the Museum’s restoration team of the Museum’s B-17FÂ Boeing Bee. The sessions will take place both in classroom settings and in the actual aircraft.
The course also includes a flight in the Experimental Aircraft Association’s B-17, Aluminum Overcast, during its visit to the Museum of Flight from May 23-27. Registration is limited to 12 persons.*
- Day 1 (May 17): 6:00-8:00pm–Meet and Greet Instructors, Receive Course Material, Intro to History of the B-17
- Day 2 (May 18): 8:00am-5:00pm–Sessions Include: Basic Design and Construction (on board the Boeing Bee), Small Group Orientation to theBoeing Bee Interior and Exterior, B-17F Operational Overview (Powerplants, Lubrication System, Turbo-Supercharger, Propellers, Fuel System, Hydraulic System, Electrical System)
- Day 3 (May 19): 8:00am-3:00pm–Continuation of Systems Overview (Environmental, Communications, Armament), Aircraft Systems Review (Components, Checks, and Orientation), Viewing of vintage “How to Fly the B-17” films, Discussion panel / Q&A Session with B-17 crew members and restoration team, Course wrap-up
